desproxy
a TCP tunnel for HTTP proxies

Features Programs reported to work with desproxy Configuration Manual

TCP connections are (by far) the most used ones in Internet applications. Almost every Internet application uses TCP natively or can be configured to do so. Desproxy makes you able to stablish TCP connections through HTTP proxies.

With desproxy you can use every application you got used to work with: your favourite browser (MSIE, Mozilla...), your mailer (Outlook Express, Pine, Mutt, Eudora), your news reader (Netscape News...)... without having to worry whether they have HTTP support or not.

Desproxy has grown fast, from a unique application to a complete suite of tools:

  • Desproxy: a TCP tunnel for HTTP proxies. The original application.

  • Desproxy-inetd: inetd version of desproxy , useful to launch desproxy as a daemon for sendmail, pop3 mail...

  • Desproxy-dns: a dns forwarder. Supports UDP & TCP client requests, forwarding them to a dns server through the HTTP proxy.

  • Desproxy-socksserver: a SOCKS Version 4 & 5 server.

  • Socket2socket: useful tiny application to connect two sockets (useful to forward proxy requests, for example).

Desproxy is designed to run on the following platforms:
  • GNU/Linux (tested Debian, should run on any flavour)

  • *BSD (including Mac OS X)

  • Sun Solaris (Tested 8)

  • Microsoft Windows (95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 & XP) using one cygwin library

  • in general, any POSIX system with a C compiler and the 'make' tool
